(e.g.: on vacation, out of the country, etc.).
Q. "Where can I get updated information?"
A. Please check the Announcements tab within this portal and website for information and updates on exams dates/times.
Q. "Do you accept out-of-province applicants?"
A. Yes. However, be aware that you will be required to travel to London on many separate occasions to participate in different tests, sometimes with little advance notice. **Note: Please be aware that any costs associated with travel and/or relocation expenses are your own responsibility.
Q. "Can you recommend courses to take to better my chances of being selected?"
A. Due to the competitive nature of the assessment process, we are unable to provide recommendations to potential applicants on how to increase their competitiveness.
Q. "Why do candidates pay fees to participate in the hiring process?"
A. As a municipal organization, our department must be fiscally responsible for managing funds we receive through taxes. To ensure there are sufficient resources to provide emergency response services, firefighter applicant testing procedures must run on a cost-recovery basis.
Q. "I've decided to withdraw, can I get my money back?"
A. All fees are assigned to a specific step in our process including processing of your application and your aptitude exam. We encourage you to consider all aspects of the recruitment process before applying as all fees are non-refundable once they have been received.
Q. "By paying the application fee, does that mean I am guaranteed a job?"
A. No. The application fee is to process your application and covers the cost of the written aptitude test only.
Q. "Do I get my exam marks/results?"
A. The City of London will post marks from this recruitment. Please ensure you have your Applicant ID handy as this will be used to identify your exam marks (for privacy reasons you will not be identified by name). Exam marks will be posted on the Announcements Tab of the web portal of London's on-line application approximately 2 weeks after the exam dates.
Q. "I have completed my York Fitness test, but it is 2 days older than the cut off acceptance date, do have to take the assessment again?"
A. Yes. We want to be fair to all candidates. The City of London will only be accepting York Fitness results completed November 17th, 2023 forward with no exceptions.
